How English-Speaking Teams Find Customers on Xiaohongshu

Xiaohongshu is a comment-first discovery surface: people ask specific product questions under notes, and many of those questions sit unanswered. English-speaking teams ignore it because the UI and slang are in Chinese. The method is the same as Reddit — search the pain in the user’s words, answer first, disclose — with translation in the loop, not auto-comments.

Why English teams skip it

Most “Reddit lead gen” stacks never mention Xiaohongshu. The opportunity is the same shape: a person describing a situation and asking what to buy or how to do it. The barrier is language and platform norms, not a lack of questions.

Search the scene, not the brand

Users search and ask in situation + pain: commute, skin, freelance tools, exam prep. Build a short list of those phrases in Chinese (with a native speaker or a careful glossary), then read the comment threads on popular notes — that is where unanswered questions cluster.

  • Scene + pain, not your English product name.
  • Comment threads under hot notes beat posting a cold brand account.
  • Sort for recency the same way you would on Reddit New.

Disclosure and platform norms

Say who you are. Do not pose as a random shopper. Do not paste a translated pitch into twenty comment boxes. Xiaohongshu, like Reddit, is harsh on undeclared promotion. If you are unsure of a rule, default to answering the question with no link.

No native Chinese operator?

Use translation to understand the thread, then have a person who can write natural Chinese — or a bilingual teammate — compose the reply. Machine-translated comments read as spam. OpenNomos can surface matching notes; it will not post for you.

Where OpenNomos fits

You write Xiaohongshu into the same project rules as Reddit and X: who, which pain phrases, what to skip. The morning list can include notes from all three. You still pick two or three and reply as a human.

FAQ

Can OpenNomos auto-comment on Xiaohongshu?
No. Discovery only. A person writes the comment.
Is this only for China-based teams?
No. English-speaking teams use it when they have (or can hire) someone who can write a real Chinese reply. If you cannot, skip the channel rather than spraying translations.
How is this different from the seed-users playbook?
The seed-users guide is the broader Chinese-language routine. This page is the English-team version: why the channel is ignored, and how translation plus human review actually works.

Put Xiaohongshu on the same morning list

One project, three channels, human replies. 7-day trial per approved project.
